Updating and Reusing Old Clothes

It’s entirely possible to make good use of your old wardrobe items and transform them into something new and modern. With a little bit of creativity and imagination, there is a lot that can be done with any item of clothing. Don’t worry about whether they’re still in fashion – you can alter and change them to make sure that they are right on trend!

Wardrobe staples like jeans and t-shirts are very good candidates for personalisation. They should be very simple to modify. The faded look is popular with denim at the moment, so don’t worry about your jeans beginning to look old. Make the most of it! Cut extra rips in the knees or use different dyes to make their appearance look deliberate. With an old t-shirt, you can dye it, modify its design or add extra touches like pockets, buttons and beads.

Another particularly nice idea is to use old clothes that are sentimental to create new items. Use patches of material to add to new clothes or take an old handbag that was special to you and have it restored by a professional. You could also use outfits from special events like weddings to make new clothes for other special events. People have been known to use materials from wedding dresses and veils in their children’s christening outfits, for example. This will bring back happy memories and is a fun, creative way of reusing material.
